In 2013, the EVPL is celebrating 100 years of service to Vanderburgh County! We envision a community that is inspired and enriched by our presence, and we seek to do this through creating experiences, opportunities and an atmosphere for lifelong learning.
November 7, 2013 - Evansville, IN - The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library (EVPL) has once again been named a five-star library in the latest Library Journal Index of Public Library Service. The five-star rating is the highest, with only 86 libraries in the country receiving the five-star designation this year. Further, EVPL is the only major metro library in Indiana to be ranked a five-star library in this round of evaluation.
The index measures four per capita areas that indicate public service - circulation, visits, program attendance, and public Internet use. The rankings are based on 2011 data reported by local libraries to their state library agencies. A total of 263 libraries received star rankings out of over 7,500 included in the evaluation. The article can be found in the November print edition of Library Journal or online at http://lj.libraryjournal.com/2013/11/managing-libraries/lj-index/class-of-2013/the-star-libraries-2013-by-expenditure-category/#10M29M.
The EVPL has received a star rating in all six editions of the LJ Index, three of those being five-stars.
