Library Journal: America's Star Libraries 2012

November 9, 2012 - Evansville, IN - The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library (EVPL) has been named a five-star library in the latest Library Journal Index of Public Library Service. The LJ Index offers an overall indication of how a library's performance stacks up to peer libraries with similar expenditures. The five star rating is the highest, with only 1.1% of the nation's public libraries receiving this designation.

The index measures four per capita areas that indicate public service - circulation, visits, program attendance, and public Internet use. The rankings are based on 2010 data reported by local libraries to their state library agencies. A total of 262 libraries received star rankings out of 7,570 included in the evaluation. The article can be found in the November 1 print edition of Library Journal or online at http://bit.ly/Z7XEhb.

The EVPL is one of only 111 public libraries that have received a star ranking every edition of the LJ Index. After hearing the EVPL has once again achieved this elite ranking, Josh Claybourn, president of the Library Board of Trustees commented, "If you ever questioned why you should use the library, this is your answer. Our local library system is constantly redefining what great library service truly is. It inspires people of all ages and it is obvious the value they provide to our community.
