Exhibit Info
The two pieces in the library case are relatively true to their origin....wood is a bit primitive and very little color has been added. They are assemblages using what others might have passed by in nature, the garbage or dump....again....
New Life has ben breathed into them and they are here for others to enjoy.
Artist Bio
Greatly influenced by my maternal grandparents, who survived The Depression, early on I was taught to save and/or reuse things. “Waste not, want not” was posted in our home, as well as, “a stitch in time”. thus I began to look at things in a different way and tried to conceive of new ways to give discards another life. This, I believe, was the basis for my creativity.
Only in college did I decide to pursue art as a career. I earned my BFA in Art/Education from Drake University and my MFA from the University of Cincinnati. I have exhibited throughout the USA and my work is in any corporate and private collections.
After Years of printmaking and two dimensional work, I began painting on discarded windows and furniture. The pieces were more affordable and reached a larger audience. It was a good way to re-invent castaways. Then I began to use old window screens and picture frames as a base for attaching found objects (ping pong paddles, oars, limbs, gourds, acorns, fabric, chair parts, etc., etc.) These pieces are more tactile and spontaneous for artist and viewer alike... and I feel that they are inviting and maybe even playful...not to dismiss the fact that they are environmentally friendly.
