The Spiderwick Chronicles - great FX!

I don't know what made me pick up this dvd, The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008), as I have not read any of the children's books - but I am happy that I did.

Maybe because any movie with David Straithairn, Mary-Louise Parker, and Joan Plowright has to be good.

The FX in this movie are incredible, though not all that impressed by the Disneyesque pixies, I loved the scarey creatures.  The goblins and trolls were great.  I was also impressed to realize that the twin boys in the story were played by one young boy.  Good performances by the human actors, even Nick Nolte in a freakish role.

Good flick for all ages.  Oh, and it has a good message about truth and family as well, how can you miss?

catybug, click on the link in the review above to see which libraries hold the movie! You should see that there are copies in the READ Center (the children's area), unless they've been checked out by the time you read this. To have it held for you, call 428-8225.
