dexterjimmy smitsThe lovable serial killer/blood spatter anaylyst with a Code of Ethics (he only kills killers) is back!

This time Dexter makes a friend!  It is, unfortunately, Miami Assistant D.A. Miguel Prado, played by Jimmy Smits.  Can Dexter keep his secrets but continue his mission?  Turns out that A.D.A. Prado has through the years compiled his own hit list, and he enlists Dexter's advice on carrying out his personal vendettas.

Then there is Dexter's domestic situation.  Can a secret killer also make a good father and husband?  His angelic girlfriend thinks so.  But will marriage cramp his style?

Michael C. Hall, who delighted us as the gay undertaker in turmoil in "Six Feet Under" easily slipped into Dexter's shoes.  It is sheer pleasure just to watch him act.  Another high point of the series is Jennifer Carpenter, who plays Dexter's tomboyish adopted sister Debra, a woman who knows how to speak her mind.  In real life Hall married Carpenter in January 2009.

Just a note: don't even THINK of watching Season 3 until you have seen the first two seasons.  (And be sure to stick with the first season through at least 4 episodes before passing judgment -- Dexter DOES develop a conscience!)

My family has been waiting all summer for this Season 3!

I haven't read any of the books but I just googled for  comparisons between the series and the books, and the consensus seemed to be that the first season was true to the book -- but the two formats parted ways on the second season.  So I just placed a hold on the brand new Dexter novel by Jeff Lindsay, hoping it doesn't spoil season 4.

I did my Dexter III marathon a couple weeks ago.  Loved it.  Season 2 is still my favorite, but I thought Jimmy Smits was great.  Can't wait for Season 4.

In an alternate showtime universe perhaps not so far away, Dexter's worst nightmare is matched by an almost equal one.

Dexter kills an innocent, who was framed by the actual killer so well that even Dexter is satisfied that his code has eliminated all chance of doubt. Of course if he never found out, who would be the wiser? The real killer after sucessfully fooling Dexter is compelled to let Dexter know the error was his ways and so the real game is afoot.

Actually in Season 3, Dexter does kill someone who, according to the Code, really didn't deserve it.  But he just amends the code.

Yes, well to continue the series (and his serial executions), Dex did have to amend his code, perhaps this is  where Dexter has become a bit more human and not just the avenger that he is a part of, that monster that both reviles and tempts him. So, long as there are executions, executioners are an accepted part of, mostly hidden from public view. Revealed in this show as fiction, an indirect perception of what we ask others to do, that we are unable to do ourselves. Someday the Dexter series will end. What amendments will they bear?

I believe that Dexter Season IV is out in December!
