I just saw Duffy the musical guest on Saturday Night Live a few minutes ago. The song she sang was Mercy from her CD Rockferry. Once again my faith in the bright future of music for girl singers is restored. It started when I first saw Amy Winehouse on I think it was the MTV music awards. There she was with her eye makeup and Ronnie Spector hairstyle singing Rehab and I was just blown away. The best part was that she had a really good and very unique sounding voice. She was not a carbon copy of the endless string of female singers such as Celine Dion, and Mariah Carey with their really annoying endless warbling final note to all their songs.
I was again really impressed with Duffy. As I listened to her wonderful sixties girl singer voice and saw her simple choreography worthy of The Ronettes on Shindig I kept trying to place who she sounded like. Finally it hit me------- Lulu. So I googled Duffy and Lulu and found that she had been compared to Lulu, Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark and Amy Winehouse. I found a youtube in case anyone is interested.
