Skype your friends and family -----wherever they are.

I have been Skyping for over a year now.  What is Skype you might ask?  Well----if you have a computer, either desktop or laptop and a webcam you are half-way there.  My friend told me she could see and hear  her grandson in France on Skype.   When my husband’s job caused him to be in Indianapolis during the week we set it up for us to Skype every night.

It’s really easier to do than to explain how to do it.  You mainly need 3 things.  A computer with high speed internet connection, a webcam, and the free software installed from the website Skype.com.  It’s also helpful to purchase a headset with microphone attached.   Skype “finds” your webcam and suddenly you are seeing and hearing the person on your contact list.   Click on the contact you want to “call with video” and when they “answer with video”----wallah!!!!!!!    There you are seeing and speaking to your loved one.

Videophone 2001: A Space Odyssey

It’s just like that scene in 2001: a Space Odyssey.  Where the father was talking to his daughter and he could see her on a little screen.   Here are few titles the library has on the subject.

Abdulezer, Loren   Skype for Dummies , Max, Harry  Skype:  the Definitive guide , Sheppard, Andrew  The Complete Idiot's Guide to Skype for PCs.     Happy Skyping!!!!!

I use Skype a lot for my school stuff.  The sound quality is really good, and we can do conference calls, which is nice.  I have never done the video chat...but it's next on my list of things to do!!
