If you've been checking your mailbox every day, looking for that fat stimulus check that may or may not have come around this time last year, check this out: an interesting article appeared in Kiplingers.com, outlining some of the major misconceptions regarding the Obama stimulus package. And, you mayb have already guessed the #1 misconception...that a paper check will be issued, as it was in 2008 with the Bush simulus plan. Stimulus for Seniors/Disabled

With all the talk regarding the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, many who are retired or disabled have been wondering how they will recieve their stimulus money. According to the Internal Revenue, a one time payment of $250.00 will be made to Social Security recipients, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients, disabled veterans, and Railroad Retirement benficiaries. The Social Security Administration Online states that no action is needed to attain these stimulus payments. Recipients should automatically receive their money by the end of May 2009, in the same manner they normally receive their benefits. SSA also provides a very useful Frequently Asked Questions page and provides a phone number for those who do not receive their stimulus by June 4. You can even sign up for FAQ update notifications through your email if you choose.

Indiana Economic Stimulus Info

A new website was launched today for those who would like information about the Economic Stimulus Package and the use of funds in the state of Indiana. The address for the website is INvest.in.gov. It will be maintained to keep Hoosiers informed about how our state's stimulus money is being used. There is a Frequently Asked Questions tab which is gives a preliminary list of how the funds are to be allocated, and answers some basic questions. Other tabs include Clean Water Programs, Highways, Bridges and Transit information, Newsroom, and Useful Links. The Formulaic Funding tab is still under construction. According to Gov. Mitch Daniels, the website will be updated often to keep us infomed of current events related to the stimulus.

October 15 is the deadline to file for your stimulus payment

If you did not file a 2007 tax return for tax purposes, you still need to file a return by October 15, 2008 in order to receive an economic stimulus payment. You are eligible for a payment if you had a total of $3,000 or more in qualifying income. How? File a Form 1040A or file electronically for free. Visit www.irs.gov and click on the free file icon. Come to the 2nd floor of Central Library and pick up your form or file online.
