The Pire family was perfectly happy living on Nostfer Avenue. But, when the new neighbors move in, things change quickly. The Wolfson's stay up all night, they lock their windows, and they love sunshine! What's a happy vampire family to do? They are too different in too many ways to get along. Little Pire Bram writes to his Grandfather in Transylvania, "Dear Vampa...mom asks if you can get the guest crypt ready for us." This story is a funny book for Halloween, but also could be used to talk about differences, acceptance and finding common ground. Much to the dismay of the Wolfson's, who are not who they seem, the vampire family moves out. It is so hard to find good neighbors. Check this one out, you'll love it!

See that awful weather outside? Feel that chilly nip in the air? Today is the perfect day! Let's do nothing! This story is about two little boys who have spent their day doing everything. Now what? They try to do the near impossible task of ten whole seconds of nothing! Hold their breath, not a blink of an eye, remain absolutely still. The cartoon like illustrations will humor all ages as they come to realize doing nothing is a lot harder than it seems.

Can you do it?

The farmyard is a dirty place. Can you imagine? Louisa, the pig with the pretty pink purse, writes letter after letter to upper management only to get this response….."Dear Disgruntled, if you don't like it, you can clean it up yourself." This chicken family just keeps running out of things. Mama says, "Put it on the list," but does anyone listen? There are pancakes but no syrup, cookies but no milk and then something terrible happens! I am a major list maker, and if it isn't on the list it doesn't come home! These cute illustrations will help teach some responsibility to your little ones and they won't even know!

My boys reading!

There is something hilarious about "unmentionables!" Especially for those little boys! There have been some really creative books lately that will make you change your mind about talking in hushed tones. These books will teach you a bit about fashion, the important role of vocabulary and make you laugh from the bottom up!

All of the other birds have eggs, Duck does not. So, when he finds one to sit on the other birds all make fun of him. What an Odd Egg! Duck waits and waits, while watching all of the other birds with thier babies. Until something unexpected happens. Creak...Crack...this clever book will make you laugh! Check it out!

Today in storytime at Oaklyn we read all about snowmen. We decided that we really want it to snow this week and to help it along, we sang this song...

I'm A Little Snowman (I'm a little teapot tune)

I'm a little snowman, short and fat (put arms out making a round belly at sides)

Here are my buttons, here is my hat (point to chest, put hands on your head)

When it's cold and icy, I will stay (put hands on hips)

But, when it's hot, I melt away (melt down to the ground)

In this tale, it's Bedtime at the Swamp-but, what's that sound? Splish Splash rumba rumba bim bam boom! Is it a monster? Or something worse? A repetitive text and funny illustrations will make this book just "scary" enough!

Oscar is having a tough halloween. He is a daschund whose mom embarrasses him with a "special" costume, the mean kids make fun of him and hog all the treats, and two pesky cats are just pesky. But, this Hallo-wiener is able to make a heroic rescue and earn everyone's appreciation in the end. A fun halloween book with lots of puns that will thrill kids and adults alike.

Frankie Stein is not like his parents! He has blonde hair, they have green. He has white teeth, they have green. He has creamy skin, their's is...green. They make faces at people, Frankie won't scare anyone. Despite thier best efforts, Mr and Mrs. Stein accept their normal son for who he is--even though he does finally find a way to be scary at the end! This is sure to be a Halloween favorite! GOTCHA!

How do you get rid of the hiccups? Skeleton needs help. Despite trying several different methods, he just can't seem to get rid of them. His friend Ghost tries to think of something. He does, making for a very funny ending! The illustrations are simple, but full of humor and details you don't want to miss. Skeleton Hiccups is a great Halloween read!

I see someone's…No, that's wrong! An unsuspecting character finds something interesting. It's a hat! All of the other animals think so too, except for one. This is a really cute book about unmentionables that will have kids and grownups laughing out loud!

Guess what? You are spending the night at Granny's house and you get to sleep in the big bed all by yourself. Are you going to be scared?? Of course not....what's that noise? My baby boo boo loves this book! It is all about not being a baby anymore and growing up. Mama mouse loves to hug and kiss her babies, but watch out for Big Bad Bunny! She likes to munch, scratch and laughs loud like a hyena. That is until she gets lost. Then even Big Bad Bunnies need their mama!

The world is a scary place! So Scaredy Squirrel stays put in his tree. Perfectly content with his daily routine. he eats a nut, checks out the view, eats a nut, checks out the view, eats a nut.... until something unexpected happens and he has to leave. Does anything awful happen? You will have to check this book out to see!
