State Tax Forms at Central Library

Yes, they're here.

We have the IT-40 booklet, with forms included, along with several other commonly requested loose forms.

Federal forms are another matter. Those, of course, are delayed as the IRS deals with the changes necessitated by the passage of the American Tax Payer Relief Act of 2012. Sorry, currently we have no word on when those forms will be available. In the mean time, you can keep abreast of updated forms at www.irs.gov.

While you're waiting, you might want to take a look at our Tax Information page. You can find information on AARP's tax aide schedule and lots of useful links for online filing and filing in general.

Central Library CLOSED until NOON on Wednesday, May 30

Central Library will be closed until noon on Wednesday, May 30 due to air conditioning repair. Central's hours will be 12:00pm - 9:00pm.

All other locations are unaffected and will open as usual.

Evansville is one of 6 international finalists in Google's 2012 "Model Your Town Competition."

Evansville native Randall Crane created a 3D model of Evansville's downtown using Google SketchUp and Google Earth. Google selected Randall's model as one of 6 finalists from a pool of 200+ entries submitted worldwide.

It's now a popularity contest, with the public being able to vote for their favorite. The winner will receive a $25,000 prize for local schools from Google, Inc. The deadline for voting is May 1st, so let's get those votes in!

Beginning Tai Chi

Have you ever wondered what practicing Tai Chi is all about or if it’s something you’d like to try? The next Savvy Senior Series program will give you an opportunity to learn about Tai Chi and try some if you’d like.

Karen Yoe, from Evansville Yoga Center will present “Beginning Tai Chi” on Thursday March 1 at 2:00 PM in Central Library’s Browning Events Room B.

Please join us in your most comfortable clothes and learn something new.

No reservations are required.

Don't Miss Bad Movie Night!

Do you need a good laugh? Are you ready to see just how bad a “Bad Movie” can be? The next movie in the “Bad Movie Night” series is Mystery Science Theater 3000’s “The Skydivers” (1963) -- a gem from Coleman Francis. This film has huge lapses in plot, continuity, and acting ability which make it a favorite.

There will also be a hilarious bonus short called “Why Study Industrial Arts” that sets the mood for the feature film

Astronomy Week

I learned something new today. There are two Astronomy Days a year. One in the spring and one in the fall. This fall the day is October 1st, and the week Astronomy Day falls in is designated Astronomy Week. So September 26th to October 2nd this year is Astronomy week. I thought this rather serendipitous what with the NASA satellite due to fall from the sky today.

The Astronomical League has a good website for those who want to learn more about astronomy. They also have information on Astronomy Day celebrations around the country as well as helpful information for those who would like to host an Astronomy Day celebration.

For information on stargazing closer to home, The Evansville Astronomical Society's website offers useful stargazing links, a nice calendar of local events, and interesting information on the society's history.

If you'd like to learn a little more about astronomy before you consider contacting your local society, the library has plenty of books on astronomy, the stars and planets, and how to be an amateur astronomer. If you visit Central Library this week, stop by the second floor and check-out our book display by the stairs. To celebrate the week, we have some of our astronomy books on display there for easy access.

Brain Jeopardy: What You Need to Know About Dementia

If you’ve never been to Bad Movie Night, you’ve been missing all the fun. Here’s your opportunity to come and enjoy (on the big screen)some of the wackiest movies ever made. In cool comfortable surroundings at Central Library, you and your friends can sit back with a drink and popcorn --------and it’s all free!

Bad Movie Night this month features The Thing With Two Heads starring Ray Milland and Rosie Grier. The 1972 cult film is being shown in Central’s Browning Events Room this Thursday August 11 at 6:30 PM.
