The catalog search box on our webpages have been modified to search the Classic Catalog. Once Encore is back up, the search boxes will be switched back to search Encore.

Happy Library Card Sign-Up Month! We know you love your library and that you've already discovered all of the amazing places your library card can take you. Have you told your friends and family what's waiting for them at the EVPL?

During the month of September, encourage your family and friends to sign-up for a library card. They can visit any location to sign-up, and when they do, you'll both be entered to win a $50 Wal-Mart gift card. They just have to tell the library staff member who referred them when they sign-up for their card. Refer multiple people, and you'll be entered to win multiple times.

Here's what your friend will need to bring with them to sign-up for their card.

Support EVPL & save money with a free home energy assessment

With the record-breaking temps we've had this summer, many are looking for ways to reduce their utility bills.

Energizing Indiana offers free home energy assessments to those who apply. An Energy Advisor will visit your home to perform the assessment. You'll receive step-by-step guidance; energy saving products, such as CFL bulbs, low-flow faucet aerators & shower heads, and insulation for your water heater; and a comprehensive report detailing additional ways to make your home more energy efficient.

This service is free, and the library Foundation will receive $25 for every energy assessment conducted through EVPL. Reduce your energy costs while helping our library Foundation!

Central Library CLOSED until NOON on Wednesday, May 30

Central Library will be closed until noon on Wednesday, May 30 due to air conditioning repair. Central's hours will be 12:00pm - 9:00pm.

All other locations are unaffected and will open as usual.

Evansville is one of 6 international finalists in Google's 2012 "Model Your Town Competition."

Evansville native Randall Crane created a 3D model of Evansville's downtown using Google SketchUp and Google Earth. Google selected Randall's model as one of 6 finalists from a pool of 200+ entries submitted worldwide.

It's now a popularity contest, with the public being able to vote for their favorite. The winner will receive a $25,000 prize for local schools from Google, Inc. The deadline for voting is May 1st, so let's get those votes in!

Why did it take so long? The Harry Potter titles haven't been available in digital formats until now. They released to the general public on Tuesday, with availability to libraries starting yesterday.

Facebook Scavenger Hunt Starts Today!

Facebook Scavenger Hunt: National Banned Books Week

National Banned Books Week is held each year during the last week in September. It celebrates our freedom to read and highlights the importance of the First Amendment as it concerns censorship. The American Library Association describes National Banned Books Week as our right to access information and express ideas, even if those ideas are considered controversial, unorthodox, or unpopular. Libraries all around the country annually celebrate National Banned Books Week in an effort to promote freedom of creativity. Help us celebrate National Banned Books Week at EVPL by participating in our Facebook Scavenger Hunt.

If you're interested in participating in the scavenger hunt, the rules are simple. The scavenger hunt is open to teens and adults. Through the week of September 26-30^th, staff members from EVPL will be reading banned books at different locations throughout the city. There will be a different staff member at each location on a different day of the week. Starting Monday, tune in to our EVPL Facebook page and Teen Scene Facebook page to locate clues. The clues will begin posting between 3:00-4:00 PM each day. Based on these clues, teens and adults will be asked to find the staff member reading their banned book throughout Evansville. The first person to locate the staff member, identify the banned book he or she is reading, and remember the catch phrase from the clues, will receive a $10.00 Barnes and Noble gift card.

Sound simple enough? If so, then participate in our first ever National Banned Books Week scavenger hunt. It will be fun and exciting and you may discover some of your favorite titles have been banned. If you can't find the time to participate, then support the right to express ideas openly and with understanding. Make sure books are available to read, challenge, change, and enjoy!
