My Bio

Bufkinite supervises Reference Services at Central Library, and derives great satisfaction from answering those seemingly impossible questions.  He's a fan of independent music, home-made entertainment, and simple wholesome food.  While acknowledging that there's some good stuff to be found there, he admits that he is, for the most part, television illiterate.

He's a huge admirer of Midwestern poet, essayist and novelist Wendell Berry, and subscribes to Berry's concepts of sustainability over exhaustion, and nurture over exploitation.

He enjoys gardening, playing guitar, singing, and the company of close friends.

He believes that print on paper is still the best way to transmit culture and knowledge from one age to the next.

Outside of and apart from work, he maintains blogs (with greater and lesser degrees of regularity) dealing with politics, reviews, and just plain observations.  He's also a bookbinder living in rural Posey County.

  • Ireland's Highways

Having just driven roughly 1500 kilometers (a little over 932 miles) in Ireland, I'm here to tell you that most Posey County roads are wider than Ireland's Highways.  These roads are narrow, and have no shoulder.  In many cases, rock walls and even house walls come to within a foot of the right-of-way.

In other places they have CURBS, like city streets, and being narrow, you can imagine the number of hubcaps which litter the Irish roadways.

Just thought you'd like to know...
