Mesker Park is one of Evansville's oldest & greatest treasures and attracts people of all ages. This video details the history of the park.
Mesker Park is named after George L. Mesker who, along with other important Evansville citizens, donated 120 acres of land for a city park. The original idea was to split the land into regions for certain park activities: a golf course, to be designed by Thomas Bendelow in 1923; a zoo, founded by Gilmour Haynie & other business leaders; and a playground & shelter, which were supported by the Evansville Kiwanis Club.
