Indiana Legal Information
Indiana General Assembly
The website of the Indiana legislature (General Assembly) has links to the Indiana Code, the Administrative Code, the Acts, etc.
Acts
Acts are the individual laws passed by the General Assembly. New acts are published annually at the end of the legislative session. To see the enrolled acts by year, go to the page for the 2003 Acts. If you want a year other than 2003, change those four digits in the URL.
Indiana Code
The Indiana Code organizes by subject all of the acts that are currently in force. The Library has the current code in two different paper editions (the Indiana Code and the Burns Statutes Annotated). Online, use the Indiana Code search engine.
Indiana Administrative Code
The Indiana Administrative Code contains the regulations created by state government agencies. Unlike acts, the regulations are not passed by the General Assembly. But because the agencies are authorized by the Assembly to create regulations, they have the force of law.
The current edition of the IAC is available online. To search, we recommend doing a site-specific search at Google. Here is an example, showing the topic keyword (divorce), the publication keywords (administrative code), and the site.
Indiana forms
The Self Service Legal Center has several forms packages for use in Indiana courts, including divorce and name change.
The Judicial Center site also has a page of publications that includes forms, including post-conviction relief and protective orders.
The Forms Management Division of the Indiana Commission on Public Records has a large online catalog of forms used by such agencies as Motor Vehicles and the Department of Revenue.
