April is National Garden Month, and there is no better time to start a garden! If you are new to gardening or just want to maintain a more manageable project, start with caring for herbs in containers. Herbs from your very own garden can lead to a delicious and nutritious return on your time and energy investment. Another added benefit is the improved mental health that comes with the benefits of an enjoyable hobby.

A fun and simple project that can yield benefits on a regular basis throughout the summer is a container herb garden. Start with a few herbs such as basil, chives, and cilantro. Basil is a great garnish for Italian dishes, and you can even make pesto. Chives provide a mild oniony flavor and are a delicious and eye-catching addition to baked potatoes and omelets. Cilantro adds an appealing depth to salsas and provides brightness to Indian dishes. Plus, the more you harvest and trim your herbs, the stronger they become and keep growing! Enjoy your own little bit of garden heaven!
