The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library is proud to partner with presenters Denise Jamerson with Lyles Station (Legacy Taste of the Garden) and Robin Mallery with Urban Seeds to teach young chefs in grades 3 through 5 how to prepare a recipe while connecting them to our local food system. Participants will prepare a dish each month to share with family and to start a dialogue about the cooking tradition in their family.
A baking dish, measuring cups and spoons, a mixing bowl, and a hot mitt, and all of each month’s ingredients will be provided along with 5 children’s books about ethnic diversity in cooking, cooking basics, history of farming, and where food comes from. Attendance to all 5 monthly classes is not mandatory, but encouraged for consistency. Each child who participates in all 5 classes will also get a red apron.
