Hispanic Heritage Month begins September 15 and runs through October 15, to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Americans who trace their roots through Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America, and Spanish-speaking countries in the Caribbean. Hispanic Heritage Month began in 1968 when Congress authorized President Lyndon B. Johnson to designate National Hispanic Heritage Week. It was expanded into a month-long celebration two decades later. September 15 marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month because it is closely tied to the anniversary of multiple countries’ independence.
EVPL will be honoring and celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with programs and book displays.
We hope that you will join us as we recognize Hispanic Heritage Month at EVPL!
