The great Mr. Stephen King was born on September 21, 1947, in Portland, Maine. If you’re a dedicated ‘constant reader’ like myself, or even if you’ve not yet dabbled in King’s world of the grim and grotesque, the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library has something for you! Some of his classic works can be found on our shelves, such as The Shining, Christine, or Salem’s Lot.
Are the often dark and horrifying tales born from the Stephen King universe not quite your thing? That’s ok too, because he does it all. A few of his non-horror fiction titles include The Stand, The Green Mile, or Joyland.
Prefer to read something nonfiction? No problem, check out his half memoir/half how-to adequately titled On Writing, or Danse Macabre, a work featuring horror literature’s influence on the TV, radio, and film industries.
If you’re looking to start where King himself began, then you will want to pick up a copy of Carrie, King’s first published novel in 1974.
Maybe reading (or listening to) books doesn’t quite float your paper boat down the sewer drain. Save your fear for movie night because we house several of King’s recent film adaptations at our locations, such as IT, Pet Sematary, or Doctor Sleep.
And maybe, just maybe, you’re a SK superfan like myself, and you want to learn all you can about his literary works, films, books, characters, or overall twisted process. You might not believe this, but we have you covered with books like The Stephen King Companion or The Science of Stephen King.
And finally, just in case you weren’t fully impressed with all that is Stephen King, here are a few fun facts to help you drift off to sweet dreams or nightmares:
