Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library is excited to announce our annual Summer Reading Celebration – our very first all-virtual summer reading program – will begin on Saturday, May 23, and continue through Saturday, August 1! This year’s theme, Our Summer: Imagine Your Story, celebrates every individual’s unique story and encourages all of our participants to imagine new possibilities.

We have all experienced changes in our daily life during the past few months. As we continue to provide and expand our digital resources and services during the temporary closure of EVPL locations, we want to be sure everyone still has the opportunity to read and earn prizes by participating in our annual summer reading celebration. Participants can register for the summer reading celebration anytime by logging into Beanstack or by downloading the Beanstack app. If you do not have an account already, it is very easy to create one and add reader accounts for everyone in your family! Our Summer will be offered for each of the three age groups: Children (0-12), Teens (13-17), and Adults (18+).

Participants can log hours on Beanstack between May 23 and August 1. Winners from each age group will be selected every week (Sunday to Saturday) to win a prize. Participants will earn a badge for every hour they read. After you have earned your first badge, you will automatically be entered into our weekly prize drawing. The more hours you read, the more badges you earn, and the more chances you have to win. Prizes for this summer include a Mesker Park Zoo Family Membership, eReaders, giftcards, and more. Winners will be notified and will be offered the option to receive a prize sent to their home or to wait to pick up their prize from an EVPL location once library locations have reopened to the public.

Reading is the best way for anyone to learn no matter what age! Reading and sharing stories opens up new worlds and encourages new ideas. EVPL supports our community by providing resources and opportunities for reading, storytelling, and conversations. We challenge all of you to share a story – either one you have read or one of your own – with someone new this summer. Your story is an important part of the stories that make Evansville a wonderful place to call home.
