Each year, the Indiana Center for the Book hosts a special state book award initiative: the Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award. This program highlights quality picture books for children ages 0-5, and encourages them and their families and caregivers to read together and interact with books at a young age. Plus, it gives children the opportunity to have a choice! Kids ages 0-5 are able to vote for their favorite book out of a list created by experts who specialize in early childhood development.

EVPL invites our library community of young readers to participate in the Early Literacy Firefly Award. The nominated books for 2024 are listed below and can be found in the EVPL collection:

2024 Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award Nominees

The nominated books will be featured at the following EVPL programs:

    • Firefighter Flo!
    • I Was Born a Baby
    • One, Two, Grandpa Loves You
    • Let’s Go Puddling!
    • Let’s Go Puddling!
    • Bear Has a Belly
    • Bear Has a Belly

*Note: individual titles at specific programs are subject to change.

Kids ages 0-5 can vote once for their favorite book. Kids all across Indiana vote and choose the winner! Paper ballots will be available at the programs listed above. Storytime at EVPL Oaklyn on July 15 will have a special voting ceremony.

Parents and caregivers can also print off a paper ballot, and turn it in at any EVPL location.

They also have the option to vote online at this link

The deadline to vote is July 31, 2024
