The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library is joining libraries nationwide for Library Card Sign-up Month, a time to remember that a library card gives you access to technology, resources, and services to pursue your passions and dreams.

This year, we are celebrating the resources and services offered by EVPL!

Not only can you check out books, music, audiobooks, magazines, and more, you can access free digital downloads of eBooks, eAudiobooks, music, and movies.

The Library of Things

The Library of Things is an extension of our collection. From outdoor games, and baking equipment, to musical instruments, the Library of Things is here to help you discover, explore, and connect in new ways.

Research Databases

Plus, you can learn a new hobby with one of our crafting databases, or receive homework or job search help from our in-person and virtual career resources. Here are a few of our databases that have the resources to find the answers to any of your questions.

  • Ancestry Library Edition: Ancestry Library Edition, distributed exclusively by ProQuest and powered by Ancestry.com, delivers billions of records in census data, vital records, directories, photos, and more. (This database is accessible only at the library.)
  • Brainfuse JobNow: Brainfuse JobNow provides live interactive online help combined with online resources to guide jobseekers, create resumes, and prepare for job interviews.
  • Browning Genealogy Database: The Browning Genealogy Database is the lifetime work of Charles Browning, who compiled the obituary records of Vanderburgh County and surrounding southwestern Indiana from Evansville newspapers.
  • Consumer Reports: Consumer Reports is one of the most trusted sources for information and advice on consumer products and services. ConsumerReports.org accepts no outside advertising, no free test samples, and has no agenda other than the interests of consumers. ConsumerReports.org offers access to ratings on electronics, appliances, automobiles, and many other consumer items.
  • Gale Courses: Gale Courses offers a wide range of 6-week interactive courses that you can take entirely online. These instructor-led courses follow a structured format that allows flexibility in accessing classes in a classroom-like environment. Students will receive a statement of completion following the course which may help staff qualify for LEUs. New sessions begin every month. You can enroll in courses at no charge to you with your library card. View Gale Course’s catalog to see the extensive list of business, technology-related, healthcare, and personal development classes available to you.
