A call-out for all kid poets! 

Student poets in grades K-12 are invited to submit original poems for a special display as Kwame Alexander—poet, educator, Emmy® Award-winning producer, and bestselling author of 40 books—comes to Evansville!

Kwame Alexander’s award-winning book of verse, The Crossover, follows the life of twin basketball-playing brothers, and has been turned into an acclaimed series on Disney+.

Poems about any topic—including basketball—are invited to be exhibited in this display, which will be at the Victory Theatre the evening of the event.

 Poetry Slam (Dunk) Display Submission | April 15 – June 1

  • Submissions can be handwritten or typed and can include simple illustrations or adornment.
  • Final pieces should be no larger than 8.5 x 11.
  • Poems can be dropped off between the dates of April 15June 1, 2025, at any EVPL location.
  • Digital submissions may be emailed to programming@evpl.org, also between April 15 – June 1.
  • If you would like your original poem returned to you, please indicate such on the entry form.  They will be available for pick-up at your selected location June 23July 6.
  • The entry form must be completed and attached to the poem when submitted.
